GVC.SiteMaker Test Drive

Getting Started

Creating a web-site with GVC.SiteMaker is not a difficult task. This section will guide the user through the process of requesting, configuring a homepage, and viewing the web-site.

Obtaining an Account

Once a username and password has been obtained, visit the GVC.SiteMaker Main Page. Depending on the Main Page's design by each organization, the GVC.SiteMaker main functions (Search for a Site, Request a Site, Configure an Existing Site, and Change Password) may or may not be displayed. Some functions may be accessed on this page while others functions will be accessed by clicking a link provided to display the page containing these elements. In this particular deployment, the general product information is the Main Page. The desired links to access the various areas of GVC.SiteMaker can be found by clicking the Test Drive item listed in the nav bar, displaying the Test Drive website. To configure a website, click on the Configure Existing Site item in the nav bar.

Accessing Your Website

GVC.SiteMaker makes use of a 'base domain' concept. That is, any GVC.SiteMaker website can be accessed by entering the base domain for the GVC.SiteMaker deployment and the siteID of the desired website. That is, http://(base_domain)/(siteID). For example, the base domain for the GVC.SiteMaker deployment you are now accessing is http://eval.gvcsitemaker.com. A siteID on this deployment may be 'admin', 'clients', or 'features'. To directly view a site enter the following in the url: 'http://eval.gvcsitemaker.com/clients'.

Individual websites can also be accessed by performing a search. The results from a search provide a hyperlink, which when selected displays the corresponding website.

Configure the Home Page

When a web-site is created, its homepage contents will default to a "Text and Image" section. However, you may also select your home page to be a "List of Links/Files". Once the type of home page desired is selected the homepage contents and additional sections (pages) can now be fleshed out.

View the Site

To view the web-site and see your changes, click on the URL link found in the light blue section at the top of the page. It may look something like: http://eval.gvcsitemaker.com/clients When clicked, a new browser window opens and displaying the web-site.
