Configuration
Configuration or Site Management is the process of adding, deleting and updating the contents of a web-site. The previous section, 'Getting Started', provided a minimal walk through on how to create a one page web-site. This section describes how to add more content to a web-site, add files for download, restrict access to pages or files, and allow other users to configure the web-site.
Security
Access to Site Configuration is restricted through a Login Page. Once you have sucessfully logged in, a listing of the sites you have permission to configure is displayed. Choose a web-site to manage. In the event that you only have one web-site to configure, the configuration page is immediately displayed.
Header information
The header for all GVC.SiteMaker Site Management pages shows the logged in user, the SiteID, the web-site owner, the Organizational Unit it is associated with, and the site URL as a hyperlink. This URL can be used to view the changes made to your site.
Main Configuration Page
The Main Configuration page, as pictured in the Getting Started section, provides links to all areas regarding Site Management. This page contains seven areas, each allowing configuration of a particular aspect of the GVC.SiteMaker web-site. Open each section by clicking the corresponding button on the right hand side of the page.
The Main Configuration page also provides an overview of some of the information in each section: web-site banner text, number of created access groups, web-site quota usage, web-site sections, database tables, and a list of users with configuration permission.
Access Groups
An Access Group is a list of users. These groups are used to restrict access to selected files and/or sections (pages). When an Access Group is set up, users requesting to view the Section or File must log in prior to seeing the indicated information. If the visitor is a member of the group, they are granted access to the file or section. If the visitor is not a member, they are notified that they do not have the required permissions to view the information.
Files
In order for a file to be displayed or used on your web-site, it must first be uploaded to GVC.SiteMaker. Any type of file can be uploaded. Once uploaded, image files are then available for use on Text/Image pages. Adding any uploaded files to a list of links/files makes them available for viewing to visitors.
Sections
A section represents a web-page containing information for visitors to view. The home page is the first one displayed to a visitor and is considered one of its sections. As sections are created, they are shown in the navigation bar. A visitor may click on the name of a section to open it for viewing. When creating a section, you must indicate the desired type (format) the section will display. How the actual contents is then entered is dependent upon the type indicated.
Database Tables
Creating a data table to display or share information on your web-site is easy. Merely give your table a name and then create the desired fields your table is to contain. Don't forget to indicate the type of data (text, number, date, file, value list) to be entered into each field as this is used to validate added data. Selecting a 'value list' data type enables a field from one data table to be used within another table. In this case, the actual field data entered results in a picklist for the corresponding field using a value list. For more detailed information on creating and using database tables, see the Database Tables link in the nav bar.
